Why railroads run locomotives in the same direction | Why do I see some trains with locomotives all facing the same direction, but others have locomotives facing in different directions?

followup to a post i made a few days ago asking about wiring a gyra this is its current condition, completely rewired it and lights were operational, and the motor is currently apart for a cleanup due to old grease (thanks to eveyones help from last post!)

(not sure if this would be the right place to post) i have this gyralight that i want to wire, if anyone has any wiring diagrams it would be extremely helpful as well as if anyone knows which side of these GE locomotive headlight bulbs is live and neutral.
