Grackles!

The first birds to return to LI from the south for spring migration. I can’t see them but I hear their creaky, rusty-gate-hinge calls up in the trees. They are the advance scout party.

It may not seem like it but in the bird world, spring is here. Keep an eye (and ear) out for the red winged blackbirds who will show up within the next few days. The spring peepers will start calling at night in the next few weeks.
