A recent controversy made me realize something

For context, there is a controversy over on Twitter (not saying X because fuck Elon) about a cisgender woman who has plans to open a women’s only gym, and in the past she was parading herself as being trans inclusive and wanting it to be a safe space for women of all origins.

Unfortunately, she recently came out and said that trans women will not be allowed in, which is AWFUL, because trans women face as much violence as cisgender women, perhaps even more. What makes the whole thing suck even more is that she managed to rally so many people into donating to her cause, and I’m sure a good chunk were trans women too. They deserve a full refund.

When I went to the comments, of course some of it was a cesspool of transphobia, but then a thought occurred to me. Let me preface this by saying that I am a cisgender woman, and I am still learning about the trans community. PLEASE do not hesitate to correct me if I say something wrong or out of line.

When cisgender women (not always transphobic) are asked what makes them a woman, it’s typically something about lived experiences how they have the strength to keep moving in a patriarchal society. Yet, ask them what makes a trans woman not a woman, they’ll say something about biology, chromosomes or some dumb shit like that.

Insanely enough, some cishet men only value cis women for what their body can offer to them, whether it’s in the way of reproduction or as a sexual outlet, and those same women are quick to get upset.

It’s almost like, I don’t know, a person being boiled down to their genitals and biology is dehumanizing and invalidates one identity that is separate from those things!!!! Imagine how trans women and trans men feel!!!!! Our biology does not define our lives and experiences!!! I wish some people would stop acting like it does!!!
