Auto sear in possession illegal?

Is it illegal to possess an auto sear or only when it’s on a firearm. Seen a couple videos on YouTube about glocks with auto Sears and how they’re illegal unless you’re an SOT II. But in the comments there’s a few people saying you can own it but its illegal when you put it on a firearm. Didn’t really see anything in rules against this but post if not allowed.
